Abstract: The aim of this exploratory-mixed research was to identify and evaluate the factors affecting the social demand for higher education among graduate students at campuses of technical colleges at University of Tehran. In the qualitative phase, the statistical population included elites and professors of higher education, among whom 8 individuals were interviewed. In the quantitative phase, the statistical population included all graduate students at campuses of technical colleges at University of Tehran (N=3527), among whom 346 individuals were randomly selected as research sample using Cochran’s Formula. The data collection instrument included a researcher-made questionnaire that contained 24 questions. The latter instrument was confirmed by the elites of higher education in terms of content and face validity. The reliability of the questionnaire was also calculated using Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient (0.92). According to findings obtained from qualitative phase, factors affecting the social demand for higher education were identified in terms of the following four major dimensions: a) individual and familial, b) academic, 3) economic, and 4) cultural and social. The results of T-test indicated that all identified factors were evaluated as desirable in the eyes of graduate students. Furthermore, the results of Friedman Test showed that economic and cultural-social factors were the most and the least important factors in this regard, respectively
