Higher Education Standards: from Ideal to Reality

Abstract

This century is called knowledge based century. In this regard, from one side, the role of higher education systems in production, broadcasting and application of knowledge is undeniable. From another side, considering increases in student’s population in higher education systems in different countries and the imbalance of this incrassation with other input factors and the mentioned system processes, evaluation and continuous improvement of these systems became obligatory.  For this, codification of higher education standards got important. Some industrial countries were active in standardization and evaluation of higher education. In addition, in three past decade’s most of higher education systems in different areas of world had done the quality evaluation. In this regard, from middle of 1370 some attempts also have been started in Iran’s higher education.  According to the mentioned points, these questions are answered in this paper; what is the history of evaluation of standardization in higher education? What is the experience of Iran in this evaluation? For answering these questions, the existed research data in the national and international level was used and while reviewing the research background, accomplished experiences will be analyzed.
