The Role of Organizational Identity in Faculty Members' Perception of Academic Innovation; An Empirical Model

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to examine the faculty members' perception of the role of organizational identity in predicting and promoting the academic innovation. This applied research made use of descriptive-correlational method in collecting the concerned data. The statistical population of this research included 282 faculty members in faculties of Humanities and Basic Sciences at Shiraz University who were selected using simple cluster sampling method. Having collected the data and getting the questionnaires returned, 134 questionnaires were analyzed.  The Organizational Identity Scale (Miller et al., 2000) and Academic Innovation Questionnaire (Keshavarz, 2013) were used to collect the required data. The validity and reliability of the forenamed scales were confirmed using Item Analysis and Cronbach's Alpha (0.88 and 0.82, respectively). The collected data were analyzed using One Sample T-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multivariate Regression through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Findings showed that, according to the perspective of faculty members at Shiraz University, the organizational identity was a positive and significant predictor of their perception of academic innovation.
